More details about the next-generation Nissan LEAF have been revealed

The all-new Nissan LEAF is close to being fully-revealed.

A few months ago, Nissan shared the first few exterior shots of the upcoming third generation LEAF. Despite being the pioneer in the fully-electric vehicle segment, it has gotten left behind and they plan to fix that with the new generation.

What we already know is that it takes on a more futuristic look, sits on the CMF-EV platform shared with the Ariya, will make use of Nissan’s 3-in-1 EV powertrain, rides on 19-inch wheels, and has a panoramic glass roof. Now, the Japanese automaker has shared a little bit more to keep us excited.

First, aerodynamics. Nissan is proud to say that the all-new LEAF has a drag coefficient of just 0.26 (Cd) for US and Japan versions. The European version, on the other hand, will be much better at 0.25 Cd thanks to a unique wheel and side mirror design.

The Japanese automaker says these figures were achieved thanks to the use of flush door handles, an active grille shutter, optimized wheel design, flat underfloor, and its fastback silhouette with the rear liftback that creates an airfoil effect.

The panoramic roof comes with an e-Dimming function.

Even the previously announced panoramic glass roof helps in aerodynamics as it allowed designers to reduce the vehicle’s height at critical air detachment points by 12mm. The glass roof also features an electrochromic dimming function which eliminates the need for a retractable shade and instead adjusts the glass’s transparency with the push of a button.

No interior photos were revealed just yet but according to Nissan, the use of the CMF-EV platform allows for a flat cabin floor, providing more space and practicality for occupants.

The all-new Nissan LEAF’s global unveiling will also be taking place sooner than we expected, happening later this month with sales beginning in the US, Japan, and Europe. As for our market, we don’t know if Nissan Philippines still plans to offer the LEAF in our market especially considering the outgoing generation’s measly sales. Perhaps the new one could be their path to redemption, and we do believe in second chances. Maybe they do too.
