Mazda PH and MSCC kick-off 2023 Miata Cup Spec Series
The country’s only one-make sports car series returns as Mazda Philippines, under the distributorship of Bermaz Auto Philippines, Inc. (BAP), and the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) announces the 2023 season of the MSCC Miata Spec Series.
“After the success of the MSCC Miata Spec Series last year, we couldn’t wait to get going again this 2023,” shares Steven Tan, President and CEO of Mazda Philippines. “This one-make format provides a unique opportunity for MSCC members to polish their skills and enjoy the pure essence of driving that only an MX-5 can provide.”
As the official race event of the country’s premier sports car owners club, this year will have 22 racers all driving track-tuned Mazda MX-5 open-top sports cars.
Allan Uy, the inaugural season’s overall champion returns for the 2023 season to defend his crown. His closest rivals—Angie King and Tyson Sy will both return as will Master Class Champion Windy Imperial and Novice Class Champion Jamal Almario. Also new and joining the grid this year are Red Diwa, Tonypet Albano, and Manny Eduque.
Aside from new racers, the 2023 MSCC Miata Spec Series will now happen at two venues: the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). The first two legs, slated on April 15 and June 24, will happen at BRC, while the final two legs, scheduled for August 26 and October 28, will be done at the CIS.
Inspired by the largest one-make grassroots race series in the world, the Mazda Spec Miata, the MSCC Miata Spec Series cars are all built from brand-new Mazda MX-5 Soft Top units. The MSCC Miata Spec Series race cars have been developed to ensure safe and enjoyable racing competition.
All MSCC Miata Spec Series cars will be raced with showroom stock Skyactiv-G 2.0L engines and 6-speed manual transmissions. Each car’s suspension components have also been upgraded and reinforced to maximize handling and performance on the track while ensuring drivability on the road.
