All-new Chevrolet Trax launched in PH with 3 variants, 1.793M starting price

The Chevrolet Trax nameplate is back in the Philippines, something that Chevrolet Philippines, under the distributorship of The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI) has been very much open about with teasers left and right and it’s finally here, launched to the general pubic through a virtual streamed event.

Unlike before when it was classified as a subcompact crossover, the Trax is now a compact crossover, sitting above the Trailblazer in the golden bowtie’s Philippine lineup, and features a whole new design direction, far from the model it replaces. It is now set to compete with the likes of the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Territory, and to some extent, even the Chevrolet Trailblazer. It also comes in three different variants: LT, Redline, and RS.

Looking at its exterior, this new generation Trax gets a more aggressive and muscular front fascia and side profile. The overall design follows the latest design language found in other newer Chevrolet products. Again, it is now a compact crossover which also means that is larger than before. Meanwhile, its interior features a driver-centric center stack with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, among others.

Standard exterior equipment on the 2024 Chevrolet Trax starting from the entry-level LT variant are automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, rear spoiler, power-folding side mirrors, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a fin-type antenna. The Redline variant adds 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss black side mirror covers and front and rear bumper finish, roof rails, and power tailgate. The RS adds a black roof, and a sunroof.

Ten (10) different exterior color options are also available: Black Meet Kettle Metallic, Summit White, Sharkskin Metallic (Silver), Jinx Metallic (Dark Red), Tigerlilly Metallic (Red), Retrograde Metallic (Black), Ziggy Solid (Light Blue), Blue Glow Metallic, Cacti Green, and Tripp Metallic (Yellow).

Meanwhile, standard interior equipment starting from the entry-level LT variant are an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4-speaker audio system, Jet Black interior with Blue accents, black and gray combination leather+fabric seats, automatic climate control, and rear aircon vents. The Redline adds an 8-inch digital driver’s display, larger 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 6-speaker audio system, red interior accents, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and black+white perforated leather seats with red stitching. Finally, the RS gives you black seats, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and wireless phone charging.

Powering the all-new Chevrolet Trax is a 1.2-liter E-Turbo GM Prime Inline 3-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 137 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Those numbers may seem a bit small compared to its competition but we should reserve our judgment until we get to try it out.

In terms of safety, the all Chevrolet Trax variants get as standard–dual front airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, cornering brake control, electronic stability control, traction control, engine drag control, panic brake assist, hill start assist, and rollover mitigation.

All variants also get advanced driver assistance systems: forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, front pedestrian detection, low speed imminent collision braking, integrated brake assist, brake prefill, and forward vehicle movement detection.

As for pricing, in typical TCCCI fashion, the Trax’s prices have a lot of the lucky number “8” in them. Like we reported before, they are as follows:

  • Trax 1.2 LT – Php 1,793,888
  • Trax 1.2 Redline – Php 1,866,888
  • Trax 1.2 RS – Php 1,948,888

Now that may seem a bit higher than most expected but do note that the Chevrolet Trax is sourced from the GM Korea manufacturing plant in Changwon, South Korea, and not from the SAIC-GM plant in China where vehicles sourced from the latter may enjoy better tax rates upon entry into the Philippines.
