Updated Nissan Almera to launch in PH on July 10

In what seems to be a race to introduce their entry in the subcompact sedan segment before Toyota Motor Philippines introduces the new generation of its very popular Vios subcompact sedan, Nissan Philippines has confirmed the introduction of the updated Almera, a few days shy of Honda Cars Philippines’ introduction of the updated City.

The updated Nissan Almera will be launched in the Philippines this coming July 10, 2023 (Monday) as confirmed on the Japanese automaker’s official Facebook page, through an invite to a virtual event.

The current generation Nissan Almera first received some updates in the North American market where it is called the Versa. This was then followed by the Thai market which marked its arrival in the region and where local units are sourced from. A camouflaged unit was also spotted testing here in the Philippines a couple months ago.

What’s new?

So what exactly can we expect from the new Nissan Almera? First is the updated front fascia which gets a new and larger V-Motion front grille, and a new bumper with cleaner lines. The Nissan logo has also been updated to the new one. The rest of the vehicle remains largely the same including the 15-inch alloy wheels on the mid-grade and lower variants.

As for its interior, it remains largely unchanged. The main visible changes for the Thai version though are new silver panels on the door panels. It still gets a two-tone color scheme but now in light blue for higher variants. It also gets a wireless charger, and Android Auto for the infotainment system (it used to only have Apple CarPlay).

Nissan Philippines has also confirmed on its Facebook post that the new Almera will feature NissanConnect Services which allows users to view vehicle statuses and operate vehicle functions remotely using a smartphone app. The Almera will be the first model in the local Nissan lineup to feature this.

Under the hood, it is safe to assume that the refreshed Nissan Almera will retain the same 1.0-liter Inline 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 100 horsepower and 152 Nm of torque, on all variants. This can be paired to a continuously variable transmission or 6-speed manual transmission.

Safety has also been improved for the Thai-spec Nissan Almera and we hope that these changes will follow-through to us as well. It can now be had with six airbags as standard on all variants. Lane departure warning, high beam assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system are also available there.

We have no idea yet as to how much Nissan Philippines will be pricing the updated Almera but we don’t expect it to increase by a significant amount. We don’t have to wait too long as the launch will be happening in just a few days.
