Toyota Land Cruiser teased for US market, to become Land Cruiser Prado here
Last month, Lexus unveiled the all-new 3rd generation of its GX luxury off-road SUV. Usually based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, the GX came first this time, with the former set to follow soon with a teaser photo released.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has not seen a new generation ever since the current one was revealed back in 2009, 14 years ago. Since then, it has only received different facelifts and upgrades to keep it competitive. This new one will also mark the return of the Land Cruiser nameplate in the US market.
As seen on the teaser image, the 5th generation Land Cruiser Prado will, as expected, share a boxier and more rugged design with the Lexus GX, which are clearly visible, including the upward kink in its rear windows. With that, we can also expect other retro design details inspired by older generations of Land Cruiser, specifically from the FJ40 Land Cruiser which is included in the teaser.
The 5th generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will share the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform with the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and of course the Lexus GX. It will also likely share the same powertrain as the GX, a 3.4-liter twin turbo V6 gasoline engine, replacing the current 4.0L naturally-aspirated V6 although various reports are saying that this may not be the case. For markets like ours, we can also expect a turbodiesel option.
Other than that, there’s really no information regarding this all-new Land Cruiser Prado. With teasers already out, it probably won’t take too long until Toyota shows it off.
