Omoda 5 gets 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP
In a market where Chinese branded and sourced vehicles are bashed non-stop for supposedly being unsafe and cheap, Omoda Philippines wants to help stop that notion as its first model, the 5, aptly earns a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).
The Omoda 5 is set to be the Chinese automaker’s first model in the Philippine market once it launches before the end of the year. The 5-star safety rating is definitely something to be proud of.
The Omoda 5’s success in one of the most rigorous vehicle safety tests can be attributed to the model’s use of mainly high-strength steel in its body as its main structure, accounting for 78%. It can withstand pressures of up to 1,800 MPa. Omoda says that the cage body of the vehicle has been designed and manufactured to maintain its overall structure without deformation in case of a collision.
Of course, safety equipment also plays a huge role in gaining a good safety rating. The Omoda 5 does not limit that with 7 airbags (including a center airbag), and various advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) such as autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, intelligent high beam assist, blind spot detection, and traffic jam assist, among others.
Omoda is set to launch in the Philippines before the year ends with the 5 as its first model, with both ICE and EV variants. Pricing of the former is expected to be below the Php 1.5-million mark.
