CONFIRMED: Toyota Yaris Cross coming to PH; variants, pricing, initial specs revealed

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is moving non-stop. Fresh from the launch of the all-new Toyota Innova, now known as the Zenix, as well as the all-new Toyota Wigo, the Japanese automaker is set to introduce a new addition to its lineup and it’s confirmed to be the Yaris Cross subcompact crossover.

While several hints and information on this model have already been leaked by other automotive publications, Toyota Motor Philippines has finally revealed some initial information on their official website, including variants, specifications, and even pricing.

First and foremost, the Toyota Yaris Cross we will be getting in the Philippines is the DNGA-based version which means it is built on the same platform as the Raize, Avanza, Veloz, and yet to be launched all-new Vios. It will be available in three different variants. The lineup will start with the 1.5 G CVT, followed by the mid-grade 1.5 V CVT, and topped-off by the 1.5 S Hybrid CVT, and yes, there will be a hybrid-powered variant but more on that later.

Photos, except for the teaser shown above, have not yet been provided or posted by TMP. Looking at what other markets get though, the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross gets an aggressive and sporty overall design, getting cues from other models such as the RAV4.

According to the TMP website, standard equipment starting from the entry-level G variant include smart keyless entry and push button start, 4-wheel disc brakes, 17-inch machine cut alloy wheels, reverse camera, wireless phone charger, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Moving up to the V variant adds a drive mode selector, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, power tailgate, synthetic leather seats, and a 360-degree around-view monitor. In addition, it also gets Toyota Safety Sense, giving it advanced driver-assistance features like pre-collision system, automatic high beam, lane tracing assist, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Finally, the S Hybrid variant gets a panoramic sunroof, and premium audio system.

Exterior color options for the G and V variants are Scarlet SE, and Greenish Gun Metal. Exclusive to the former is Attitude Black Mica, while the latter also gets the option for White Pearl, Dark Turquoise SE, and a two-tone Scarlet SE and black combination. The S Hybrid gets the combination of black with Scarlet SE, White Pearl, or Dark Turquoise SE.

As for powertrains, the G and V variants will be powered by a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder 2NR-VE gasoline engine with dual VVT-i. It will produce 106 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT.

Meanwhile, the S variant will still get a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine, but this time paired with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Called the 2NR-VEX, this hybrid powertrain setup produces a maximum combined output of 91 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque.

Pricing has also been revealed. It starts at Php 1,199,000 for the 1.5 G CVT, followed by Php 1,296,000 for the 1.5 V CVT, and tops-out at Php 1,598,000 for the 1.5 S Hybrid variant.

The Toyota Yaris Cross’ Philippine launch date has not yet been announced by TMP. Given the teaser and release of some specifications though, it may be very soon.
