DOUBLE DOWN: Chery Auto PH launches mild hybrid versions of Tiggo 5X Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro

Chery Auto Philippines, under the distributorship of United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI, is not going soft in its push for electrification in the country as it launches new mild-hybrid variants of not one, but two of its most popular models in the Philippine market.

The Chinese automaker was one of the pioneers of electrification in the local market with the introduction of its Arrizo 5e fully-electric sedan in 2020, followed by the introduction of the Tiggo 8 Pro e+ plug-in hybrid (PHEV) last year. Now, the company is introducing mild-hybrid powered versions of the Tiggo 5X—now known as the Tiggo 5X Pro, and the Tiggo 7 Pro.

The two new model variants were initially previewed during the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) back in April. Now, they’re both finally here and here’s everything you need to know about them.

Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid

First to join the lineup is the refreshed Tiggo 5X which is now known as the Tiggo 5X Pro, joining the rest of the Chery Auto Philippines lineup. Other than the option for a mild-hybrid powertrain, it also gets a handful of aesthetic changes on the exterior, as well as a completely overhauled interior.

First, powertrains. The star here is a new 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, paired with a 48-volt electric motor. This allows the engine to produce more power and torque, as well as reduce emissions by 14%, and reduce fuel consumption by 13%. This mild hybrid powertrain combination produces 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. It is mated to a CVT.

A full internal combustion engine powertrain is also still available on the lower variant. It gets the same 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 114 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, also mated to a CVT.

The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro also gains an updated appearance with the brand’s signature Diamond Galaxy front grille, new LED headlights, new 18-inch alloy wheels specific to the hybrid, and an updated set of LED taillights. It also gets a completely new interior which is based heavily on what is seen on the Tiggo 7 Pro.

New equipment include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree around-view monitor, multi-color ambient lighting, electronic gear selector, and wireless phone charger.

The Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is priced at Php 1,140,000. Meanwhile, the non-mild hybrid variant is priced at Php 940,000.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid

Already made available a few weeks ago, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid has also been officially launched. This one also gets a handful of changes other than the new powertrain under the hood.

In terms of design, unlike what we saw in China last April that had a new grille, full wraparound taillights, and a new interior, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid for the local market is largely similar to the standard version with only a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels and new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Other standard features remain such as multi-color ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, wireless phone charging, and a 360-degree around view monitor.

Like the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid, the Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid is also powered by a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, paired with a 48-volt electric motor, which in total produces 156 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT. Also like the Tiggo 5X Pro, it gets automatic start & stop, and energy recovery functions.

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid goes for a suggested retail price of Php 1,350,000 with the non-mild hybrid version priced at Php 1,250,000.

With the launch of the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid and Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid, that leaves the Tiggo 2 Pro as the only model in the brand’s local lineup to have no electrified version. That also makes Chery one of the brands with mostly electrified models in the lineup, in the country. What do you think of the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid?
