Toyota Yaris Cross officially launched in PH, starts at Php 1.199M
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is on a roll! Not long after the successful launches of the all-new (Innova) Zenix 7-seater family MPV and the all-new Wigo small hatchback, the Japanese automaker is still at it, adding a completely new subcompact crossover model to its local lineup, in time for its 35th anniversary in the country.
Say hello to the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross, the brand’s latest addition to its lineup of crossovers big and small, as well as its newest hybrid-powered model in the country, yes, hybrid. More on that below.
Sitting in between its Raize and the Corolla Cross in the brand’s lineup, and unlike the Yaris Cross unveiled to the world even earlier, this Yaris Cross is built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform which also underpins the Avanza, Veloz, and all-new Vios. It is available in three variants starting with the 1.5 G CVT, 1.5 V CVT, and 1.5 S Hybrid CVT.
In terms of looks, the all-new Yaris Cross takes cues from other Toyota models such as the RAV4 and the North American-market Highlander crossovers, wearing the brand’s “Solid & Dynamic” design language. In front is a large front grille flanked by sleek headlights, with a nicely sculpted bumper giving it a sporty appearance. The rear features slim wraparound taillights and it also gets a floating roof design.
Inside, the Yaris Cross looks identical to its platform mates with its modern and angular appearance. The center stack is angled towards the driver for better ergonomics.
Among its standard equipment starting from the entry-level 1.5 G CVT variant are smart keyless entry and push button start, 4-wheel disc brakes, 17-inch machine cut alloy wheels, reverse camera, wireless phone charger, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Moving up to the 1.5 V CVT variant adds a drive mode selector, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, power tailgate, synthetic leather seats, and a 360-degree around-view monitor. Finally, the 1.5 S Hybrid CVT variant gets a panoramic sunroof, and premium audio system.
Exterior color options for the G and V variants are Scarlet SE, and Greenish Gun Metal. Exclusive to the former is Attitude Black Mica, while the latter also gets the option for White Pearl, Dark Turquoise SE, and a two-tone Scarlet SE and black combination. The S Hybrid gets the combination of black with Scarlet SE, White Pearl, or Dark Turquoise SE.
Under the hood, G and V variants of the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross get a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder 2NR-VE gasoline engine with dual VVT-i. It produces 106 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Meanwhile, the top-spec S variant still gets a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine, but this time paired with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Called the 2NR-VEX, this hybrid powertrain setup produces a maximum combined output of 91 horsepower and 121 Nm of torque and is also mated to a CVT.
As for safety, 1.5 V CVT and 1.5 S Hybrid CVT variants get Toyota Safety Sense as standard, giving it a pre-collision system, automatic high beam, lane tracing assist, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Finally, pricing. The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross’ suggested retail prices start at Php 1,199,000 for the 1.5 G CVT, followed by Php 1,296,000 for the 1.5 V CVT, and tops-off at Php 1,598,000 for the 1.5 S Hybrid CVT. Those are all very competitive if you ask us.
The all-new Toyota Yaris Cross will be on display at Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City, along with the rest of the Toyota and Lexus electrified vehicle lineup, at the Go Electrified with Toyota fair until August 6, 2023.
Toyota Motor Philippines is definitely on to something with this new hybrid crossover. What do you think of it?
