Nissan gives US-market Frontier a classic Hardbody Edition
Before the Nissan Navara and the previous Frontier that we see on our roads today was the Nissan Hardbody. That model, introduced in the 1980s, is one of the most significant trucks in Nissan’s history.
In celebration of that model, Nissan, at least in North America, has introduced a fitting tribute to the Nissan Hardbody in the form of the Frontier Hardbody Edition, with a couple of retro design stuff around. For those who don’t know, Nissan continues to sell the Frontier nameplate in North America, giving it a whole new generation in 2021, instead of introducing the Navara we have here in the Philippines.
So what does the Frontier Hardbody Edition get compared to the standard Frontier? For starters, it features three-spoke heritage-styled 17-inch alloy wheels that closely replicate the look of those on the original truck, wrapped in all-terrain tires.
It also gets an aluminum skid plate, black over-fenders, a black side rail, mud flaps and a bed-mounted sport bar for a retro-rugged look. Just like its ’80s namesake, the Hardbody Edition wears black-painted bumpers, mirrors, door handles and grille. Rounding off the changes are black graphics with a large “4×4” logo on the front doors and a tailgate graphic that features a cut-out “Nissan” logo, replacing the truck’s typical Nissan tailgate emblem.
Like the standard Nissan Frontier, the Frontier Hardbody Edition is powered by a 3.8-liter VQ38DD V6 gasoline engine that produces 310 horsepower and 381 Nm of torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
What do you think of the Nissan Frontier Hardbody Edition? For us, we’re kind of hoping Nissan Philippines decides to create its own Hardbody Edition, but for the Navara.
