Ford Ranger PHEV announced, coming in 2025
Ford has unveiled a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of its popular Ranger pickup truck. It is set to begin production in 2024, with sales starting in early 2025.
There isn’t much information yet about this new electrified Ford Ranger but based on information that we have, the Ranger PHEV will first make its way to the European market, with other global markets such as Australia to follow soon after.
Powering the Ford Ranger PHEV will be a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired to an electric motor and high-voltage battery. Details on its output are not yet available but it will have a pure electric driving range of 45 kilometers on a single charge.
Ford is also targeting for it to have a 3,500 kg towing capacity just like other Ranger variants as most owners use their Ford Rangers for towing, at least in other markets outside the Philippines. Four wheel drive will be standard, as well as three driving modes: EV Auto which is a combination of both electric and gasoline engine power, EV Now for a fully electric drive, and EV Charge which makes use of the engine to charge the battery.
In addition, the Ford Ranger PHEV will feature Pro Power Onboard just like on the Ford F-150 Lightning. This will allow owners to power tools and appliances using the vehicle’s battery through power sockets in the cargo bed and inside the vehicle.
Also noteworthy is that it appears that Ford Ranger PHEV will be based on the Wildtrak variant with its matrix LED headlights and LED taillights, X-shaped front grille, and sports bar. It does however get a different set of alloy wheels which appear to have a more aerodynamic design compared to those on standard Rangers.
Do you think there is room for an electrified Ford Ranger in the model’s Philippine lineup?
