Changan S7 EV previewed for PH, to launch in 2024
Changan Auto Philippines just held its official brand launch under its new distributor, Inchcape Philippines. While they showcased their entire lineup of ICE vehicles as well as a new model for the local market, they also previewed what’s to come in terms of electrification. With that, the company has previewed the Changan S7 fully electric crossover.
Set to be officially introduced in the local market in the first half of 2024, the Changan S7 was revealed earlier this year at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. Designed in partnership with tech giant Huawei and Chinese battery maker CATL, the S7 is produced under Changan’s Shenlan EV brand which is known as Deepal in English.
The Changan S7 is certainly eye-catching when it comes to its design with the sleek and sporty aesthetic of the front fascia, with the use of sharp edges and lines and geometric shapes all around the vehicle.
Its interior leans on the upmarket side with a minimalistic design approach, and combination of leather and suede materials on the seats. Taking it further is the tan and black color scheme. In the center is a large infotainment screen for controlling various vehicle functions. Also noticeable is the lack of a driver’s instrument cluster with it getting a heads-up display instead.
We don’t have any specifics yet on the Changan S7’s powertrain but looking at the Chinese spec version, there are two powertrain options. First is the fully electric version making use of a 160 kW electric motor (215 horsepower) that allows for a driving range of 520 kilometers and 620 kilometers depending on the variant. This can also go from 0 to 100 kph in just 6.7 seconds.
The second is an extended range version making use of a hybrid powertrain that is composed of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 94 horsepower, paired to an electric motor with 235 horsepower. This has pure electric driving range of 121 km (short range) and 200 km (long range).
Pricing of the Philippines is not yet available at this point, so are other specifications and features. In China however, this is priced between RMB 169,000 and RMB 239,900 or around Php 1.3-million to Php 1.65-million when converted.
Again, the Changan S7 is expected to be made officially available here in the Philippines within the first half of 2024. With more and more EVs coming in from all over the world, we surely are on the right track for electrification.
