Non-hybrid Toyota Corolla Altis variants now get a 1.8-liter engine as standard

Toyota Motor Philippines may have not done huge extravagant launch events over the past year, but they were certainly very busy updating their lineup, some even slipping below the radar of us motoring media publications.

Together with other models and variants like the Corolla Cross, Corolla Altis GR-S Hybrid, Innova, Fortuner Q, and Hilux G, the Japanese automaker this time has given the rest of the Corolla Altis an update and the biggest can be found under the hood.

Now powering the Toyota Corolla Altis’s entry-level E and mid-grade G GR Sport variants is a 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE Inline 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine with dual VVT-i that produces 140 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque. That is an upgrade compared to those variants’ former 1.6-liter 1ZR-FE gasoline engine that made 120 hp and 153 Nm. The E variant’s manual transmission has been dropped, now making all Corolla Altis variants equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The 2ZR-FE engine also benefits from an Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) which is an improved version of the variable valve timing system. It allows for better fuel efficiency and better engine response.

Pricing for the 2024 Toyota Corolla Altis now starts at Php 1,135,000 for the 1.8 G CVT variant, followed by Php 1,302,000 for the 1.8 G CVT GR Sport variant, and tops-out at Php 1,730,000  for the 1.8 GR Sport Hybrid variant.
