GAC Motor PH to expand Emkoo line with new hybrid variant, launching at MIAS 2024
GAC Motor Philippines is on a roll lately. The Chinese automaker, under the distributorship of Astara Philippines, launched last month the all-new M8 luxury minivan, and just recently the updated GN6 MPV in the form of the M6 Pro.
With the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) just a week away from now, you’d think they wouldn’t have anything new to show us anymore. That isn’t the case as the company has just announced that it will be bringing to the show the Emkoo Hybrid.
The GAC Emkoo was launched locally at last year’s MIAS and definitely got the crowd’s attention with its futuristic design, turbocharged powertrain, and rather affordable pricing. GAC Motor Philippines has not revealed any specifics about the Emkoo Hybrid but a quick research gives us an idea of what we can expect from the electrified compact crossover.
In other markets where it is available, the GAC Emkoo Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter AB20L1 Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired to an electric motor. Co-developed with Toyota, this powertrain combination produces a total of 238 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).
Other than the electrified powertrain, setting apart the Emkoo Hybrid from the standard turbocharged variants are a sleeker set of alloy wheels, as well as ‘hybrid’ badging.
Pricing is also not yet available and it will have to be competitive against its main rival in the market, the GWM Haval H6 HEV which is priced at around Php 1.8-million. Anyway, the MIAS 2024 is just around the corner so we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
