Auto China 2024 | Omoda E5 showed-off, Jaecoo J7 and J8 PHEV unveiled in Beijing

While the Omoda and Jaecoo brands may be quite young, only having been officially launched a little over a year ago, they are already quite aggressive with expanding their lineup and that’s what we saw at the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, also known as the Auto China or Beijing Auto Show.

The two sister Chinese automakers brought out three electrified models to show to the public—the Omoda E5, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants of the Jaecoo J7 and J8 crossovers. That’s not all though as they are set to unveil another model, the Omoda 7, in the coming days.

The Omoda E5 is the fully-electric version of the brand’s first ever model, the O5. This one isn’t completely new as we actually already saw this previewed for the Philippine market during the recent 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS)

Being fully-electric, the Omoda E5 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and 61.06 kWh battery. This system makes 204 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque and can drive 505 km on a single charge.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (T-GDI) paired to an electric motor and battery, mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). In total, it produces 347 horsepower and 525 Nm of torque with an estimated fuel economy of 20.42 km/l, allowing it to drive for 88 km on pure electricity, or over 1,200 km on a single full tank of gasoline.

Meanwhile, the Jaecoo J8 PHEV gets a similar powertrain setup, but with a 3-speed DHT, and with dual electric motors. This setup allows it to produce a whopping 605 horsepower and 915 Nm of torque. Its all-electric and combined driving range, as well as estimated fuel economy figure was not announced but it can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.4 seconds

Right now, only the Omoda E5 is confirmed to be arriving in the Philippine market while the ICE-versions of the Jaecoo J7 and J8 are also confirmed, while there is no confirmation yet on the PHEV variants. It won’t be surprising to see them though given the growing popularity of electrified vehicles in our market.
