GWM Tank 500 scores five-stars in latest ANCAP safety test
The GWM Tank 500 is one SUV we’re definitely looking forward to seeing on Philippine roads. Not only does it look very luxurious, but is also now one of the safest SUVs you can buy where it’s available.
The large SUV was recently given a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) for the Australian and New Zealand markets, making it the seventh model from the Chinese automaker to receive such rating since 2017.
The GWM Tank 500 was able to get high scores in the different testing categories. It got 85% or 34.38 out of 40 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 93% or 46.00 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 81% or 51.53 out of 63 points for Vulnerable Road User Protection (VRUP), and 84% or 15.28 out of 18 points for Safety Assist.
Of note, its 93% score in the COP assessment is the highest ever given to any vehicle to date by the ANCAP under its 2023-2025 protocols.
Now we’re not sure if GWM Philippines has plans to introduce this SUV in the local market. They’ve also kept mum when asked. At least we know that if it does launch here, it’ll be very safe.
