G50 MPV returns to PH as an MG, starts at Php 1.048M

2 min read

The Maxus brand may be gone from the Philippine market, but their lineup isn’t completely gone. The G50 compact MPV is back in the country, now sold as the G50 Plus by MG Philippines.

The MG G50 Plus, like its previous Maxus counterpart, is available in multiple variants for the Philippine market: Standard M/T, Comfort DCT, and Lux DCT.

Now don’t expect much difference from the MG G50 Plus compared to the Maxus G50 as they are essentially the same inside and out, with a handful of changes.

On the outside, the G50 Plus still gets a sleek front fascia with wraparound LED headlights, and a large front grille. Its body is still styled like a minivan though with normal swing-out doors instead of sliding ones. There is a different set of wheels and of course, MG badging around instead of the Maxus name.

Standard exterior equipment on the MG G50 Plus starting from the entry-level Standard M/T variant are halogen headlights, LED taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a rear spoiler. The Comfort DCT adds LED daytime running lights and power folding mirrors. Going for the top-spec Lux DCT adds LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and roof rails.

Inside, it’s the same story with a similar look. New for the MG G50 Plus versus the Maxus G50 are options of a seven- or eight-seater layout. The former gets captain chairs on the second row instead of a standard bench seat.

In addition to that, the center console has been redesigned with the gear lever removed and replaced by a steering column-mounted electronic gear selector on DCT-equipped variants.

Standard interior equipment for the 2024 Maxus G50 Plus starting from the Standard M/T are fabric seats, manual A/C controls, and a four-speaker audio system. Going for the mid-grade Comfort DCT adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, power door locks, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Finally, the top-spec Lux DCT gives you PVC leather seats and a six-speaker audio system.

Like the Maxus G50 before, the MG G50 Plus is still powered by a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. Output has increased to 181 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque. This can then be mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a new 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT), replacing the dry-type DCT from the Maxus G50.

The 2024 MG G50 Plus lineup is priced as follows:

  • 1.5 Standard M/T – Php 1,048,888
  • 1.5 Comfort DCT – Php 1,188,888
  • 1.5 Lux DCT – Php 1,288,888
