Refreshed Mitsubishi Montero Sport quietly launched in PH, price starts at Php 1.568M
After several sightings on local roads, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has officially begun sales and customer deliveries of the refreshed 2024 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, quietly bringing it to their local lineup.
While it may not yet be a new generation like its Strada sibling which was replaced by the Triton a few months ago, the 2024 Mitsubishi Montero Sport gets a few updates to keep it competitive amongst newer and better-equipped competition while the next generation model is still in development.
As before, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport lineup starts with the entry-level 2.4 GLX 2WD M/T, followed by the 2.4 GLS 2WD A/T then the 2.4 GT 2WD A/T Black Series. The lineup is now topped-off by the 2.4 GT 4WD A/T Black Series.
As we’ve seen in other countries, updates to the exterior of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport are minor with a redesigned Dynamic Shield grille which gets a more rugged look and integrated lighting on higher variants, slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, and a new 18-inch alloy wheel design. The same goes for the interior where changes are limited to a new three-spoke steering wheel that is shared with the Triton, and an updated interface for the driver’s digital instrument cluster on higher variants.
Standard features remain largely similar to before with the base GLX M/T variant getting halogen projector headlights, LED taillights, silver-painted 18-inch alloy wheels, an analog instrument cluster with 4.2-inch multi-information display, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is now included.
Those buying the GLS 2WD A/T variant will now get black leather seats and a power-adjust driver’s seat in addition to LED exterior lighting (headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights, integrated grille lights, cornering lights), smart keyless entry with push button start, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Moving up to the GT 2WD and AWD A/T Black Series variants gives you a gloss-black finish for the wheels, front grille, bumper garnish, roof, side mirrors, door handles, power tailgate with hands-free function, and tailgate spoiler.
Inside, both get two-tone burgundy and black (the MMPC website shows brown and black) leather seats with a diamond stitch pattern, power front passenger seats, black headliner, and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. The GT AWD Black Series gets the addition of a sunroof and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Unlike in other markets which get the Mitsubishi Triton’s new 4N16 engine, powering the refreshed Montero Sport for the Philippine market is still a 2.4-liter 4N15 Inline 4-cylinder MIVEC turbodiesel engine that produces 181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission on the GLX, or an 8-speed automatic transmission on the rest of the lineup.
As before, the two GT variants benefit from an advanced driver-assist system composed of Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Exclusive to the GT AWD Black Series are Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Lane Change Assist (LCA). All but the base GLX also get a 360-degree Multi Around-view Monitor.
The changes of course come at a cost. Pricing for the refreshed Mitsubishi Montero Sport is now as follows:
- 2.4 GLX 2WD M/T – Php 1,568,000
- 2.4 GLS 2WD A/T – Php 1,899,000 (+ Php 71,000)
- 2.4 GT 2WD A/T Black Series – Php 2,162,000 (+ Php 59,000)
- 2.4 GT AWD A/T Black Series – Php 2,428,000
Do you think these updates are enough while we wait for the next generation Mitsubishi Montero Sport?
