BYD PH is launching a new model on July 25
The BYD brand is seeing a lot of growth in the Philippines since its local distributorship was taken over by ACMobility (then known as AC Motors), the mobility arm of the Ayala Corporation.
Stronger growth also means another thing, more models, and that’s what we found out during a recent drive experience for the BYD Han and Tang EVs. The Chinese EV automaker is set to launch an additional model to add to its growing lineup this coming July 25, 2024.
This was announced by ACMobility President Mr. Antonio “Toti” Zara III. While he didn’t share any details on what model will be launched, a quick research points to two possible models–the BYD Seagull or the BYD Sealion 6, of course, both fully-electric.
Starting with the smaller car, the BYD Seagull is the brand’s entry-level model and smallest EV. Its size of just 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm of width, and 1,540 mm in height will definitely work for the Philippine market, especially with the growing popularity of small EV hatchbacks from brands like Jetour, Wuling, and GWM.
Among the BYD Seagull’s features are a rotating 10.1-inch infotainment screen, 5-inch digital instrument cluster, and even a karaoke feature for those who love to sing in the car.
It is powered by an electric motor paired with BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, producing 75 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque. With a 30.08 kWh battery it can drive an estimated 305 kilometers on a single charge. Opting for the larger 38.88 kWh battery brings range up to 405 kilometers. Top speed is also rated at 130 kph.
Next is the BYD Sealion 6. Known as the Song Plus EV in China, this could sit between the Atto 3 and Tang in the brand’s local lineup.
We can also expect this to come with the BYD usuals such as a rotating touchscreen infotainment system, a fully-digital instrument cluster, and different ADAS functions.
Powering the BYD Sealion 6 EV is a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with three different states of tune. The first is paired to a 71.7 kWh LFP Blade battery and produces 184 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, with an estimated driving range of 520 km. Next is a pairing with a very slightly larger 71.8 kWh battery and making 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque, also with an estimated range of 520 km.
Last and most powerful is the pairing of the electric motor with an 87.04 kWh battery, making 218 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. The larger battery brings the estimated driving range up to 605 km.
Obviously, these are just assumptions at this point. We won’t have to wait too long though as the announced launch date is less than a month away and BYD Philippines will probably begin teasing us soon. What do you think is the new model they will be launching?
