Mitsubishi Motors PH expands L300 line with Modern PUV Class 1 version

Utility vehicle buyers looking for a good delivery van or truck, or a people-hauler, usually go for the Mitsubishi L300 and that’s for good reason. Despite having an extremely old design, it just refuses to disappear, making it very much tried-and-tested.

Well, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is adding to the L300’s immortality with the introduction of a new variant—the L300 Modern PUV Class 1. This would allow the L300 to compete with the likes of the Toyota LiteAce, Suzuki Carry, and Isuzu Traviz which both have their own Modern PUV variants.

This new variant is designed to be used as public transportation as an alternative to traditional and modern jeepneys, and as an easier to enter alternative to the standard L300 FB with its side door instead of rear swing-out doors. As Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has not yet released any information, we did have to look at other sources. According to those, seating capacity has been reduced to 13 (including the driver), as opposed to the L300 FB’s seating capacity of up to 17 people.

No photos are available of the interior as well but it is highly likely to be the same as other L300 versions, probably with just the addition of controls to open and close the rear door.

Powering the Mitsubishi L300 Modern PUV Class 1 is still a 2.2-liter 4N14 turbodiesel engine that produces 99 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, exclusively mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Exact pricing has not yet been announced but the Mitsubishi L300 has a starting price of Php 825,000 for the Cab & Chassis variant. Adding the passenger seating area will add a few hundred thousands to that.
