BYD Cars PH goes PHEV with the Sealion 6 DM-i, launched with Php 1.548M starting price
The BYD brand may be known for its lineup of fully-electric vehicles, but unfortunately, those still aren’t for everyone. BYD Cars Philippines, under ACMobility, has the answer to that.
Say hello to the new BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, the newest member of the Chinese automaker’s local lineup, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) for those who may still be apprehensive about EV ownership but wish to get into it.
As mentioned, under the hood of the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, unlike other BYD vehicles in the local market, is a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Dubbed as Super DM-i, this is composed of a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine that produces 97 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque, paired to a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor and an 18.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery that makes 197 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque.
Combined power and torque figures are at 217 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque and it can go from 0 to 100 kph in 8.3 seconds. It can drive up to 105 kilometers on pure electric driving, while mixing it up as a hybrid can let it drive as far as around 1,100 km. It is compatible with Type 2 charging.
Size-wise, the BYD Sealion 6 is a compact crossover around the same size as the Ford Territory, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. It has a length of 4,775 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, and a height of 1,670 mm, and sits on a 2,765 mm wheelbase.
When it comes to looks, BYD has names for everything. For starters, the exterior wears what they call the Ocean x Face Design which gives it a premium and sleek overall appearance. Then there’s the Glistening Combination Headlamps which are U-shaped, and the Surging Waves alloy wheels. The rear then features full-width LED taillights dubbed as Ocean Starlight.
Meanwhile, inside the Sealion 6 you’ll find a more simple interior compared to BYD’s other offerings. This one features more simple and straight lines giving an impression of more space.
Standard equipment include full LED exterior lighting, a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and BYD Voice Assistant, 10-speaker Infinity premium audio system, and dual 15W wireless phone chargers.
Color options for the BYD Sealion 6 are an Azure Blue or Arctic White exterior matched with a Navy Blue and Gray interior, or a Harbor Grey exterior matched with a Tan and Black interior.
For safety, the BYD Sealion 6 is equipped with an advanced driver-assist system (ADAS) dubbed as DiPilot. This suite is composed of Intelligent Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Assistance, Traffic Congestion Assistance, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limit Information and Intelligent Speed Limit Control, and Blind Spot Detection.
This is on top of six airbags, a 360-degree around-view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and a tire pressure monitoring system, among others.
The 2025 BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is available in just one variant—the Advanced, and it’s priced at Php 1,548,000. Do you think the BYD Sealion 6 can get you into the electrified vehicle ownership scene?
