The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is Makati City’s new response vehicle

Makati City is making its public safety response better and greener by introducing the fully-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 as its new Public Safety Response Vehicle

Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) turned-over to the city government of one of the country’s centers of commerce a fleet of five units of their fully-electric crossover which will be deployed as response vehicles in keeping and ensuring the safety of the city’s residents and transients.

Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. (HMPH) handed over a fleet of its flagship electric vehicle (EV), the IONIQ 5, to the local government of Makati. Five (5) standard range units in Phantom Black Pearl were selected for deployment as response vehicles in keeping and ensuring the safety of the city’s residents and transients.

The Philippines is one of the nations most vulnerable to climate change because of its geographical location and composition. So the electric vehicles for public use revealed today by Makati City is commendable. Makati’s future-oriented approach aligns with the national government’s plan to increase the number of EVs in the country. It also fits well into Hyundai Motor’s pioneering path to carbon neutrality for the benefit of the future generation. To this end, Korea is more than prepared to partner with the Philippines in the field of eco-friendly transportation,” said His Excellency Sang-hwa Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines, who was present at the turnover ceremony.

As a resilience hub, we recognize our critical role in addressing environmental concerns. By introducing, Hyundai IONIQ 5 electric vehicles into our public safety fleet, we not only enhance our emergency response capabilities but also contribute to reducing air pollution and our overall carbon footprint. This move not only bolsters our emergency services but also sets an example for other cities to follow in the pursuit of sustainable urban living,” said Makati City Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay.

In order to make for full use of the vehicles, EV chargers will also be installed at the Makati City Hall and the barangay halls of Brgy. Palanan and Brgy. Guadalupe Viejo within the city.
