GAC Emkoo Hybrid in PH to be priced at Php 1.698M?

A few months ago in April, at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), it was announced by GAC Motor Philippines that they will be introducing the GAC Emkoo Hybrid in our market by June of this year. We’re approaching the end of August and no launch has happened, but it might be soon.

In what could be a case of another excited car dealership, details have surfaced about what will be GAC Motor’s first electrified model to enter the Philippine market.

As posted on the GAC Motor Sta. Rosa Facebook page, the GAC Emkoo Hybrid will have a suggested retail price of Php 1,698,000 which puts it head-to-head with models such as the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i (at Php 1.548-million), Toyota Corolla Cross (1.8 V HEV variant at Php 1.763-million) and the GWM Haval H6 HEV (Max variant at Php 1.788-million). That’s also Php 200,000 more than the current top-spec 1.5 GL DCT variant which is priced at Php 1,498,000.

It’s not just a badge here as the Emkoo Hybrid gets a proper hybrid powertrain.

Powertrain-wise, the GAC Emkoo Hybrid gets a proper hybrid system composed of a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. That combination produces 235 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). GAC Motor claims this can achieve a fuel economy figure of up to 22.1 km/l.

Features are expected to remain the same as the GL variant with stuff like full LED exterior lighting, 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, among others.

The GAC Emkoo Hybrid is expected to have similar (if not the same) equipment as the Emkoo 1.5 GL.

While there is no official announcement yet from GAC Motor Philippines, or its distributor Astara Philippines, the social media post by one of their authorized dealerships is surely a sign of things to come.
