Is BYD Cars PH launching the tiny Seagull EV hatchback soon?

A few months ago, we wrote about an upcoming BYD Cars Philippines launch which we guessed would be for either the Seagull or the Sealion 6. Well we were still right as the latter was launched last July 25. Now it looks like the former is set to arrive very soon as well.

Yes, that’s right. The BYD Seagull is set to launch in the country soon as the Chinese automaker announces the BYD Tech Tour which is set to happen on August 30-September 1, 2024 at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City.

The event’s poster shows what’s undeniably the Seagull’s front fascia behind the brand’s crossover lineup as you can see below. This means that the BYD Seagull will be making its first local appearance and it can be viewed by anyone.

The BYD Seagull is the brand’s entry-level model and smallest EV. Its size of just 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm of width, and 1,540 mm in height will definitely work for the Philippine market, especially with the growing popularity of small EV hatchbacks from brands like Jetour, Wuling, and GWM.

We don’t know what features the BYD Seagull will get here in the Philippine market, but looking at our neighbors, those could include a rotating 10.1-inch infotainment screen, 5-inch digital instrument cluster, and even a karaoke feature for those who love to sing in the car.

It will also be their smallest EV.

Powering this tiny EV hatchback is an electric motor paired with BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, producing 75 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque. With a 30.08 kWh battery it can drive an estimated 305 kilometers on a single charge. Opting for the larger 38.88 kWh battery brings range up to 405 kilometers. Top speed is also rated at 130 kph.

At this point, we do not know yet if the BYD Seagull’s appearance at the BYD Tech Tour will already be its official launch, or just a preview. Whichever it is, at least we know it’s coming. As for other details, we’ll just have to wait until BYD’s local distributor, ACMobility, gives us more.
