Refreshed Jeep Wrangler Rubicon arrives in PH, price starts at Php 5.590M
Not long ago, the refreshed Jeep Wrangler arrived in the Philippines. Known internally as the JL2, it was initially only available in a single Sport variant. That changes now as Jeep Philippines has just launched the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.
The Unlimited Rubicon is the highest-spec Wrangler you can get here in the Philippines. As such, it comes with a few additional niceties to make it a bit more premium than the rest of the lineup. Jeep Philippines also emphasizes that the Wrangler Rubicon is an off-roader that can be used for daily driving rather than the other way around.
With this introduction, the updated Jeep Wrangler lineup in the Philippines now looks like this:
- Wrangler Unlimited Sport – Php 4,790,000
- Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (2-Door) – Php 5,590,000
- Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (5-Door) – Php 5,780,000
If the Unlimited Sport was rather subtle when it came to exterior changes, the Rubicon’s are much more noticeable. For starters, it gets a large one-piece front mesh grille with seven outlines in place of the brand’s signature seven-slot grille. This allows for more air inside the engine bay. Full LED lighting is also now a standard feature instead of an add-on.
The fender flares have been repositioned higher to allow space for wheel articulation or play, as well as more room for larger tires. Speaking of tires, the Rubicon rides on new 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 33-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. This setup also increases ground clearance to 279mm.
As we saw on the Sport, the most obvious change in the JL2 Wrangler is on the inside where the dashboard gets a sleeker look thanks to a redesigned center stack.
Found here is a 12.3-inch touchscreen UConnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and (wired) Android Auto connectivity. Setting it apart from the Unlimited Sport are Nappa leather seat upholstery with embossed Rubicon logos, and red interior stitching.
Other standard equipment for the Rubicon are front and rear recovery hooks, heated front seats and steering wheel, a new off-road camera, a 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system, and a 7-inch color display for the driver, among others.
And of course, as with every Jeep Wrangler, the doors and roof are all removable for those who want an open-air driving experience.
Powering the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the same powertrain as the Unlimited Sport. That’s a 2.0-liter Hurricane turbocharged Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that makes 268 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission
It also gets Jeep’s Selec-Trac Full-Time 4WD System matched with a Dana M210 Front Axle, Dana M220 Rear Axle, and skid plates (for the transmission, transfer case, and fuel tank) giving extra capability and protection when driving off-road.
You’ll also probably want to know that the Wrangler Rubicon is capable of wading through 864mm of water thanks to the placement of various engine components.
Just like on the Unlimited Sport, safety has been improved on the Rubicon as it now gets Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross Path Detection, and Full Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus with Active Braking, among other standard safety features.

Pricing has gone up as you’ve read early in this write-up but we won’t be surprised to see this as a top-seller for Jeep in our market. Do you think the changes it received are what it needs to battle with newer rivals such as the Ford Bronco?
