BYD is top NEV brand for 2023 with 3-million cars sold
BYD remains strong as it takes the crown of the number one manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEV) in terms of sales with over 3-million units sold globally.
A new energy vehicle or NEV, is a term used for vehicles which are predominantly powered by electricity. Examples of this are fully-electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and BYD topped everyone.
The Chinese automaker led global NEV sales for the second year in a row as it exceeded its sales targets with 3,024,417 vehicles sold last year, an increase of 61.9% compared to 2022. Of this figure, an estimated 1.6-million units are full EVs, while a combined estimate of 1.4-million units are a mix of PHEVs and hybrids.
Sales were led by BYD’s Dynasty and Ocean line of vehicle models with 2,877,353 total unit sales. The Dynasty line is made up of the Han sedan and Tang crossover, while the Ocean line is made up of the Dolphin hatchback and Atto 3 crossover. All four models are available here in the Philippines.
2023 also saw BYD register in the top 10 of all automotive sales for the year while continuing to lead all other car brands and manufacturers in Chinese domestic vehicle sales. Also for that year, BYD’s sales outside its home market of China grew by 334.2% with 242,765 units sold in 70 countries where the brand is present.
The BYD brand was relaunched in the Philippines in November last year, now under Mobility Access Philippines Ventures, Inc. (MAPVI), a subsidiary of AC Motors which is the same company behind the distribution of Volkswagen and Kia brands in the country.
