AAP certifies Omoda 5 EV’s 430 km driving range
While the Omoda brand’s Philippine launch seems to be taking an eternity, the company is still very busy. Among that is getting certification from the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) for its Omoda 5 EV.
The Chinese automaker’s fully-electric crossover recently went on a certification drive with the AAP to validate its claimed driving range of 430 kilometers on a single charge of its battery.

The company brought-out two units of the electric crossover and drove from the province Laguna which is south of Metro Manila, to the province of La Union which is located in Northern Luzon. The following parameters were followed:
- 100% battery charge at the start of the drive
- Standard OEM equipment
- Tire pressures of 42 psi
- Speed range of 60 to 10 kph when possible
- Three passengers each vehicle with 10 kg of items
- Extreme energy saving mode/highest regenerative braking
- Temperature and blower settings for A/C system at passenger’s preference
- Other accessories/vehicle functions used when needed
- Use of adaptive cruise control
In total, the drive took 13 hours and stopped in six destinations along the way from Shell Mamplasan along the SLEX, NLEX Balagtas, Petron TPLEX (Northbound); Clean Beach Coffee in San Juan, La Union; and Shell TPLEX Rosario.
By the end of the drive, the first vehicle had a 2% charge left on its battery with an estimated remaining driving range of 8 kilometers. This resulted in a total driving range of 442.7 kilometers or 12.7 km more than its rated range. On the other hand, the second vehicle had a remaining battery charge of 7% with an estimated 28 kilometers of remaining range. This totaled to 428.8 kilometers of range which is slightly less than the rated range.
Combined, this gives the two vehicles an average of 435 kilometers of estimated driving range which is 5 kilometers more than the rated range.
