PIMS 2024 | Mitsubishi Motors PH to unveil new SUV concept

Things are getting even more exciting in the weeks leading to the 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) announces that it will be hosting the world premiere of a new seven-seater SUV concept.

This move makes sense as the Philippines is one of the Japanese automaker’s strongest markets outside of Japan. The announcement was also accompanied by teaser images showing the concept vehicle which we could only assume will transform to become the next generation of the popular Montero Sport.

The new SUV will wear Mitsubishi’s latest design language.

The current generation Mitsubishi Montero Sport was fist unveiled in 2015, with a major overhaul done in 2019. The latest update was unveiled earlier this year, and made available locally in June.

MMPC says that this 7-seater SUV concept embodies the company’s commitment to provide fulfilling mobility lifestyles that awaken the adventurous spirit of drivers and provide excitement for everyone on board.

And looking at the teasers, what is immediately obvious are the T-shaped headlights which look identical to those on the Mitsubishi Xforce subcompact crossover, as well as the latest iteration of the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield front grille which gets a hexagonal pattern for a more rugged look.

What model do you think will this SUV become?

We’re also seeing a very rugged rear quarter panel with a muscular shape, as well as faux vents on the C-pillar. It may also be taking on a boxier appearance, following the trend of many new SUV models these days.

The decision to have the world premiere in the Philippines is a testament to the country’s growing importance within Mitsubishi Motors’ global operations,” said MMPC President & CEO Ritsu Imaeda. “This new concept reflects Mitsubishi Motors’ vision of delivering top quality vehicles to the ASEAN region, and we are thrilled that this will be showcased for the first time in the Philippines.”

We won’t have to wait long for the unveiling of this new SUV concept as the 9th Philippine International Motor Show is all set for October 24 to 27 which is just a couple of weeks from now.
