BYD overtakes SAIC Motor as the largest automaker in China
BYD is now the largest automotive company in China, beating out SAIC Motor last month. This is according to a report by Fast Technology.
This bit of news comes after the new-energy vehicle (NEV) automaker became the top-selling car brand in China last year with over three million vehicles sold.
For this year, BYD saw its group sales—which includes sub-brands Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang—reach 419,426 units for the month of September. That equates to a 45.32% compared to September 2023. Meanwhile, cumulative sales reached 2,747,875 units for a 32.13% year-on-year increase.
Making the milestone even more significant for BYD is the fact that SAIC Motor holds major joint ventures with global companies such as Volkswagen and General Motors, as well as ownership of popular brands such as MG.
Globally, BYD currently holds the position of seventh in the ranking of total number of vehicles sold. Here in the Philippines, the brand continues to expand under the distributorship of ACMobility, with recent introductions including the popular Sealion 6 DM-i, Seagull small EV hatchback, with the Seal midsize sedan set for launching before the month ends.
