PIMS 2024 | What to expect from launches, previews, and more

It’s the day before the much-awaited 9th Philippine International Motor Show, happening on October 24 to 27 (Thursday to Sunday) at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City.

One of the largest motor shows in the country, a total of 17 automotive brands will be participating and each one has already given out bits of information and teasers on what we can expect from them during the four-day motor show. We have here a rundown of everything you can expect to see.

BMW

BMW Philippines previously announced during a press conference with the motor show’s organizer that they will be introducing an electrified M car. Details are currently scarce as to what it is but it will expand the current lineup of electrified performance cars in the country for sure.

Changan

Changan Auto Philippines is joining the PIMS for the first time. Now under the distributorship of Inchcape Philippines, the Chinese automaker will have two vehicles at the motor show. 

The star of their booth will be the Hunter REEV. This will be the first range-extended pickup truck in the country, utilizing an electric motor that you can plug-in to recharge, and a gasoline engine that works as a generator. Range is said to be over 1,000 kilometers.

Changan will also be showcasing the Uni-T Midnight Edition. Limited to just 10 units, it gets a unique gloss black front lip and side skirts while the front grille and 20-inch alloys wheels have been blacked-out. Faux carbon fiber finishes have also been given to the side skirts and rear spoiler which also gets some racey-looking fins.

Chery

Chery Auto Philippines continues to bank on the popularity of subcompact crossovers as it shows-off another set of updates to its two smallest models. Launching at PIMS 2024 is the heavily-updated Tiggo 2 Pro which gets a totally new front fascia and interior, as well as a possible new powertrain. Also to be present is the heavily-refreshed Tiggo 5X Pro which also gets loads of changes.

Daewoo

We don’t have information on what we’ll be seeing at the booth of Daewoo Bus Philippines but we won’t be surprised to see a hybrid or electric bus, or any other electrified transportation solution that they could add to their stable.

Ford

Ford Philippines, just like Changan, is joining the PIMS 2024 for the very first time. The American automaker, however, has kept quiet on what it is set to showcase for its first participation. Based on a social media post, we won’t be surprised to see their entire lineup grace their booth though, including their Bronco and Mustang halo cars.

Foton

Foton Philippines has recently released a set of teasers for what we can expect from them. It looks like the Chinese truck manufacturer will be showing-off a pair of electric commercial vehicles. The first teaser shows what could be the E View Grand van, while the second shows what could be the Wonder small dropside truck.

Honda

Honda Cars Philippines isn’t keeping secrets as they already previewed to us last month the Civic RS e:HEV which will be launching at the motor show. Its launch will mark the arrival of their second e:HEV model in the market after the CR-V, and the updated Civic. Hopefully we also get to see what the rest of the Civic lineup has in store for us, and perhaps a sneak peek at the refreshed HR-V RS e:HEV. Who knows?

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor Philippines returns to the PIMS with its latest lineup. The Korean automaker will be showcasing the hybrid variants of the Tucson and Santa Fe crossovers, the Stargazer X and Staria, as well as the high-performance Elantra N. The brand will also be putting up an N Racer Simulator for visitors to enjoy. Spot, a robot dog will also be present.

Isuzu

Isuzu Philippines is one of those brands that have kept quiet on what we can expect from them at the PIMS with no teasers at all. They did mention during the PIMS Press Conference that they will be showing-off an electrified model. This means we could see either the D-MAX MHEV or D-MAX BEV Concept, or an electric commercial truck.

Jetour

Jetour Auto Philippines has two new vehicles up its sleeve for the PIMS. It will be introducing the T2 Terminator 4×4, a new variant for its fairly popular off-roader which they say is “built to provide a seamless combination of versatility, style, and adventure-ready performance.”

The Chinese automaker will be adding another new crossover to its lineup—the X50 subcompact crossover. This was unveiled for the Russian market just a few months ago and is designed exclusively for export markets. 

Kia

Kia Philippines is launching at the PIMS the EV9, their second EV in its local lineup and the first three-row crossover to hit the Philippine market. Revealed at last year’s Seoul Mobility Show, the EV9 will offer a futuristic look, lots of tech, and a driving range of above 500 kilometers. Obviously, full details will be revealed upon launch.

Mazda

Mazda Philippines does not have any new models to launch at the motor show but they will officially be launching the AutoExe brand of Mazda performance parts along with a showcase of AutoExe Editions of the Mazda 3 and CX-60. We also won’t be surprised if the Japanese automaker also shows us another special edition of the iconic MX-5 (Miata).

MG

MG Philippines is expanding its lineup once again with another compact crossover. Based on a teaser posted on its social media pages, that will be the HS which would make a comeback after the previous generation was discontinued. With an available plug-in hybrid system for it, this also makes the possibility of it being MG’s first PHEV offering in the country.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines has what arguably could be the most exciting reveal for this year’s PIMS as they are set to do the global unveiling of a new 7-seater SUV concept. 

A lot of discussion on what this could be is happening all over social media with some guessing it could be the next-generation of the Montero Sport midsize SUV, while some are guessing it could mark the return of the iconic and popular ‘Adventure’ nameplate through a stretched Mitsubishi Xforce crossover. 

Nissan

Nissan Philippines is going big for this year’s PIMS with four new models to be shown-off. Based on a teaser they previously posted, we’re expecting to see the X-Trail’s return, along with the regional debuts of the Z Nismo, all-new Patrol, and the Magnite. No information is available on whether these will be launches or previews but we are surely very excited.

Suzuki

Suzuki Philippines is marking its presence at the 9th PIMS with a showcase featuring its mild-hybrid MPVs, as well as a display of a “future forward” concept vehicle. In addition to those, the Japanese automaker will also be revealing a new special variant for the very popular Jimny. As to what exactly it will give us, we don’t know yet.

Toyota

Toyota Motor Philippines has a lot in store for us at the 9th PIMS. Based on their teasers, the country’s largest automotive brand will possibly be showcasing the much-awaited all-new Vios, as well as the all-new Camry which recently made its regional debut in Thailand.

We’ll also likely be seeing the Kayoibako concept van which was unveiled at last year’s Japan Mobility Show, as well as the bZ4X electric compact crossover. The latter could become the brand’s first fully-electric offering if launched. That’s not all though, as we’ll also be seeing what they describe as a “modern future sustainable concept inspired by motorsports.”

And lest we forget, the all-new Toyota Tamaraw will also be present at the show ahead of the start of its retail sales which is expected to begin before the year ends.
