All-new Honda Amaze revealed in India with baby HR-V and City looks
It may have been a while since Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) offered the Brio Amaze in our market, but it has soldiered on known simply as the Amaze in other markets. Now, it has gotten an all-new generation.
Revealed for the Indian market, the Amaze is Honda’s smallest model alongside the Brio in the brand’s global lineup. It now sits on the City subcompact sedan and Elevate subcompact crossover’s platform unlike the version offered here which was simply a Brio sedan.
In terms of design, Honda has given it a complete redesign, taking cues from other models in their lineup.
The front fascia looks like a downsized version of the HR-V with its hexagonal grille and wraparound headlights, while the rear gets slim taillights with a similar lighting signature as that of the City and BR-V.
Inside, the dashboard follows Honda’s Man Maximum Machine Minimum philosophy. It features similar design cues as the Elevate with plenty of horizontal lines, a three-spoke steering wheel, trapezoidal section for the climate controls, and a floating-style touchscreen infotainment screen.
It also gets Honda’s half-digital half-analog instrument cluster, leatherette seats on higher trims, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless phone charger, and rear AC vents.
Under the hood, the all-new Honda Amaze is mechanically unchanged compared to the previous generation. It is still powered by a 1.2-liter Inline 4-cylinder i-VTEC gasoline engine that produces 90 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT.
Safety has been largely improved as the all-new Honda Amaze is the first model in the segment to be equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems through Honda SENSING. This gives it adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, forward collision alert, lane-keep assist, and lane departure warning, among others.
While they no longer share the same platform, there is still a chance that this shows us what to expect from the next-generation Honda Brio. As to whether Honda Cars Philippines will bring it here, we can’t tell for sure especially with how they entirely skipped the previous generation.
