Here’s what we can expect from Hyundai at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon

Hyundai is bringing its small electric Inster crossover to more markets with a launch happening at the upcoming 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon. It was first revealed at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show (BIMOS) in June 2024 as the all-electric version of the Casper.

Now why are we writing about this? We just really think that the Inster makes a lot of sense in the Philippines, especially with the popularity of fully-electric small crossovers, particularly those from China.

While Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) does offer models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, these are at a much higher price point than what the market wants. With a Japanese launch, it just means that the Inster is getting even closer to a possible Philippine launch.

Anyway, looking at the Inster’s design, it’s very much in line with the Hyundai Ioniq lineup with its signature LED daytime running lights and pixel-graphic design for its turn signals, taillights, and bumpers. Depending on the variant, it can be equipped with 15-inch steel wheels with covers, or 17-inch alloy wheels. It will also come with LED headlights and a two-tone paint job with a contrasting black roof.

Inside, it is largely like the regular Casper but with a few changes such as a three-spoke steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Powering the Hyundai Inster in South Korea are options of a single electric motor paired to either a 42 kWh or 49 kWh battery. The former produces 97 horsepower while the latter, 115 horsepower, with both making 147 Nm of torque

Hyundai projects a driving range of up to 355 kilometers and charge times of 30 minutes from 10% to 80% when using a 120 kW DC charger. An 11 kW charger will come as standard.

In addition to the Inster, Hyundai Mobility Japan will also be showcasing a Ioniq 5 N made in collaboration with Keiichi Tsuchiya who is also known as “Dorikin“ or “Drift King.” and Autobacs Seven Co., Ltd. Another Ioniq 5 N, a collaboration between Hyundai N and MINI GT, will also be exhibited in the booth.
