If there is one common wish we have for the Philippine automotive manufacturing industry, it’s probably to see more models made here in larger numbers. For Indonesia, that’s no longer a dream, especially for Mitsubishi Motors.

The Japanese automaker has announced that their Indonesian subsidiary, PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI) has achieved a huge milestone with production hitting one million vehicles.

Vehicle manufacturing is currently done at the company’s plant, located within the GIIC Industrial Estate in Indonesia’s Bekasi Regency. The facility began vehicle production in April 2017 with an annual production capacity of 160,000 vehicles. This capacity was increased to 220,000 in fiscal year 2019 with vehicles exported to around 50 countries worldwide.

Currently, the facility produces seven models. These are the Pajero Sport (Montero Sport in our market), Colt L300, L100 EV, Xforce, Xpander and Xpander Cross, and Nissan Livina. The Xforce, Xpander and Xpander Cross, and Nissan Livina are all exported from their facility to the Philippines.

Thanks to the support of Indonesia’s government, our suppliers, and our partner companies, our Indonesian production hub has become a major pillar of our company’s business,” said Mitsubishi Motors President and CEO Takao Kato. “The vehicles produced here are sold throughout Indonesia, and some are exported to other countries, including ASEAN countries, so this facility plays an important role as a key ASEAN production site. We will continue to roll out highly appealing products and contribute to the further development of the Indonesian economy.”
