CONFIRMED: Lynk & Co coming to PH under UAAGI
The number of Chinese brands in the Philippines just keeps on growing and growing. After a few rumors, it has finally been confirmed that Lynk & Co is coming to the Philippines and will be distributed by none other than United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI).
Lynk & Co is co-owned by Geely and Volvo, and is the former’s luxury division, founded in 2016. Its entry to the Philippines was confirmed during a recent Chinese New Year lunch with members of the local motoring media and content creator community.
Despite being a Chinese brand, Lynk & Co was actually established in Sweden, Volvo’s home country. In fact, it shares its technology with Volvo, more than its parent company, Geely. All its current vehicles are also built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform which was co-developed by Volvo and Geely. Powertrains are also shared.
UAAGI currently holds the distributorship to three other brands in the Philippine market—Foton and Chery which have both seen success over the years. They also hold the distribution of the British motorcycle brand Mutt Motorcycles.
The Philippines is set to become the brand’s second market in Southeast Asia, after Vietnam. With a lineup of crossovers, they’ll surely be able to tap a segment that’s becoming very popular not only locally, but all around the world.
If we’re not mistaken, a local launch is set to happen at this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) which is less than two months from now.
