MG One launches in PH, starts at introductory Php 1.223M

MG Philippines, now under SAIC Motor Philippines, has just launched its newest crossover for the local market, the MG One. This comes a few months after the model was first previewed to members of the local motoring media and content creator community, as well as various dealer groups, during last year’s Christmas season festivities.

Stylized as ONE, the all-new MG One straddles the line between a subcompact and compact crossover, and replaces the HS compact crossover in the local MG lineup. It is available in two variants—the Standard (STD) and the LUX.

In terms of looks, the MG One wears a similar design language as the MG GT, and the refreshed MG HS which is no longer offered locally, with its large front grille and swept-back headlights. Its interior takes on a more modern approach with its driver-centric dual screen setup in a single housing, and large use of straight lines. Both the STD and LUX variants have similar levels of equipment but the latter gets a handful of upgrades compared to the former.

Standard equipment on the STD are as follows:

  • LED headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights
  • Body-colored side with turn-signal lamps
  • Frameless wipers
  • 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels (Maxxis tires)
  • Manual-adjust front seats
  • Leather seats
  • Smart keyless entry with push button start
  • 7-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Automatic climate control
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 4-speaker audio system
  • Reverse camera
  • Dual front airbags
  • Side airbags
  • Rear parking sensors
You need to know the differences to tell apart the STD variant (shown) from the LUX.

Getting the Lux variant adds the following:

  • 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels (Continental tires)
  • Black side mirror finish
  • Power-folding side mirrors
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Roof rails
  • 6-way power-adjust driver’s seat
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind-spot information system
  • 360-degree around-view camera

Exterior color options are Moon White, Iron Oxide, Meteorite Black, Extreme Speed Red, Fizzy Orange, and Brighton Blue.

Powering the MG One, in typical Chinese car fashion, is a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 170 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque. Unlike most Chinese cars and even other MG models, it is not mated to a dual-clutch transmission and instead gets a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

You’re probably wondering how much the MG One costs. The 1.5 CVT STD is priced at Php 1,298,888 and the 1.5 CVT LUX is priced at Php 1,458,888. They are both also available for introductory prices of Php 1,223,888 and Php 1,390,888.
