BMW PH launches G60 5 Series and i5
BMW Philippines, under the distributorship of SMC Asia Cars Distributors Corporation, is certainly aggressive in bringing their latest products to the local market, this time with the all-new BMW 5 Series and its EV counterpart, the i5.
Revealed to the world in May last year, the G60 BMW 5 Series is the eighth generation of the German luxury automaker’s midsize executive sedan. Its availability in the Philippines is marked by two variants: the 520i and i5 eDrive40.
In terms of design, the G60 5 Series mixes both sporty and elegant design details with a chiseled hood and front bumper, and sleek headlights. The kidney grille which is now more prominent also lights up. The side and rear are slightly more conservative but show traditional BMW design elements.
Standard features include LED exterior lighting, 19-inch Triplex 933 alloy wheels for the 520i, and 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels for the i5 eDrive40, among others. Both variants are available in six different colors: Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, Oxide Grey, Phytonic Blue, and Sophisto Grey.
Inside, the G60 5 Series takes on a more modern design with a more horizontal theme and large screens typical of other BMW products. BMW is also proud that they have significantly reduced the number of buttons and integrated ko most controls to the screens—12.3-inches for the instrument cluster, and 14.9-inches for the infotainment. Features also include a HiFi loudspeaker system from Harman Kardon composed of 12 205 watt speakers.
Powering the BMW 520i is powered by a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a 48-volt starter generator making it a mild-hybrid. In total, it produces 208 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the i5 eDrive40 gets an electric motor and a 84.3 kWh battery that produces a combined 340 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 kph in 6.0 seconds. It can drive 582 kilometers on a full charge.
Just like the recently launched BMW i4, the all-new 5 Series and i5 are also equipped with BMW ConnectedDrive which gives customers access to the MyBMW App, allowing remote access to vehicle functions and infotmation from smartphones.
Pricing for the BMW 520i is set at Php 4,990,000 while the BMW i5 eDrive40 is Php 5,790,000. Customers for both variants will enjoy a five-year comprehensive warranty, while i5 eDrive40 customers will get to enjoy an additional six-year service package and an eight-year high voltage battery warranty, as well as a free wallbox charger.
