You can soon drive the Afeela concept EV…virtually
Tech companies are not just all about consumer electronics anymore as some companies, such as Sony, have started to spread out into developing vehicles. For the Japanese company, it’s with Honda, through Sony Honda Mobility (SHM).
Announced at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the company’s Afeela brand, specifically the Prototype 2024 EV will soon be available to drive, albeit virtually.
The concept vehicle which we also saw in the flesh at last year’s Japan Mobility Show will soon be drivable thanks to a partnership between SHM and Polyphony Digital, the developers of the popular Gran Turismo racing simulator, and co-developer of the iconic Nissan GT-R R35. Polyphony Digital will now be part of the team developing vehicles with SHM.
According to SHM, the purpose of this partnership is to develop vehicles that fuse the virtual and the real, mainly in the area of human senses and emotions by combining Polyphony Digital’s simulation technology with the development of actual vehicles by SHM.
The Afeela EV will soon be available to virtually drive on the Gran Turismo 7 racing simulator once a patch update is released later this year.
