This Is The All-New Ford Everest
Just a few days after revealing the all-new Ranger Raptor, months of spy shots, and teasers, Ford has finally unveiled the latest version of its midsize SUV offering. Now on its third generation, the all-new Ford Everest is still based on the Ranger pick-up truck, specifically the new generation revealed back in November. It gets a more modern and rugged exterior, new technology, and additional safety features.
“When we started imagining the next-gen Everest, we started not at the beginning but at the end: With our customers,” said Ian Foston, chief platform engineer for Everest. “They’re people who like adventure, recreation and being able to go out with family and friends. Whether they’re conquering sand, rocks or city life, these customers appreciate the utility, capability and spaciousness of an SUV.”
Right now, Ford has shown off three variants which are the Sport, Titanium+, and a new flagship Platinum variant. Full details for each variant will be revealed once launched in different markets, including ours.
Outside, the all-new Ford Everest gets a total makeover with a more rugged, muscular, and tough-looking exterior, very similar to that found on the Ranger. In front is a larger front grille, flanked by Ford’s signature C-clamp headlights. Matrix LED headlights are available on Titanium and Platinum variants and markets. On the side, the vehicle’s silhouette remains similar to the current model but it does ride on a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the design is heavily modernized and improved with new LED taillights.
Inside, the all-new Everest gets a similar dashboard design as the Ranger. Smack in the center is a large central touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC4 system. The screen itself can be had in 10.1- or 12-inches in size and features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Charging devices will also be very convenient as charging ports can be found on all three rows. Also, 8- or 12.3-inch digital instrument panels, depending on the variant, replace the traditional analog gauge clusters.
It’s not all about looks though as underneath all the sheet metal, Ford has increased the Everest’s track and wheelbase by 50 mm. Not only does this improve space and comfort, but also its capabilities both on- and off-road. In addition, The Everest’s rooftop can now support static loads of up to 350 kg and dynamic loads of up to 100 kg, providing increased versatility that enables it to carry bikes, canoes, cargo pods or roof-top tents. A universal mounting system allows customers to equip their vehicle with a range of accessories. Water wading depth also remains at 800 mm.
Just like the Ranger, under the hood of the all-new Ford Everest are three engine options. The first option is the current generation’s 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel four cylinder engine which can be had with either a single or bi-turbo diesel. Next is a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel. Last but not the least is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo. Depending on the model, these powertrain options can be paired to a 6-speed or 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
Safety is also enhanced for the all-new Ford Everest. Depending on the variant and the market, the addition of the far-side airbag (between the driver and front passenger) and dual knee airbags brings the number of airbags up to nine, including front driver and passenger, dual seat side airbags and dual side curtain airbags which cover all three rows.
Ford has also enhanced the Everest’s driver-assistance tech which includes Adaptive cruise control with stop and go or Adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centering, new Lane-keeping system with road-edge detection, new Evasive steer assist, new Reverse brake assist, new Blind spot information system (that now supports 2.4 m x 10 m trailers), and enhanced Pre-collision assist with intersection functionality.
What do you think of the all-new Ford Everest? Given the continuous popularity of the midsize SUV segment in the Philippines, hopefully it won’t be too long before we see the new model launched locally.
