Nissan begins manufacturing line integration in Thailand

Remember the rumors of the “closure” of Nissan’s second manufacturing plant in Thailand which ended up as actually consolidating production lines in one plant instead? Well, it has finally happened.

To aid in the Japanese automaker’s recovery efforts after being hounded by financial troubles, the consolidation of all vehicle production lines into the company’s Plant Line No. 1 has officially been put in order with a ceremony held recently.

This means the Almera, Kicks e-POWER, Navara, and Terra will all now be produced in Nissan Motor Thailand Plant Line No. 1. This is the brand’s first manufacturing facility in the Land of Smiles, opened in 1962 and producing over 2.5-million vehicles since then for both domestic and overseas markets.

Nissan continues its commitment to grow its presence in Thailand and ASEAN. One of our strategic actions this year is upgrading our production lines at Nissan Thailand’s plants to be more cost-competitive and ready for future model localization. This key action prepares us to continue delivering exciting Thai-made vehicles for our valued customers in Thailand and other export destinations,” said Nissan Thailand and ASEAN President Toshihiro Fujiki.

Now how does this news affect our market? Well, Nissan Philippines sources nearly all its vehicles from the Nissan plants in Thailand. There’s nothing to worry about as these changes are not expected to affect the production of Philippine-bound models.
