Big Luxury: Nissan PH launches 2022 Patrol with Php 4.548M SRP

Nissan Philippines isn’t done yet for the year, after launching the updated versions of the Navara and Terra, LEAF fully-electric car, and the all-new Almera, the brand is now introducing the updated version of its flagship model in the market, the Patrol.

First introduced in 2010, the current generation Patrol received its first facelift in 2014. What we’re seeing now is the second facelift, revealed in 2019 for the Middle Eastern market. Finally, it reaches our shores, also in time for the model’s 70th anniversary.

“Built on 70-years of SUV heritage, the Nissan Patrol continues its legacy here in the Philippines. It is now smarter than ever, and leads its class in innovation, luxury, and performance. We are offering the latest in the Patrol legacy here in the Philippines to leaders who recognize its capability, versatility, stylishness, comforts, and innovations,” says Nissan Philippines President and Managing Director Atsushi Najima.

Just like the outgoing pre-facelift version, the 2022 Nissan Patrol is only available in a single variant. It gets a host of upgrades inside and out to keep it fresh despite its basic design being already over a decade old, and with newer generations of its main rivals, such as the Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford Expedition, already available in the market.

The exterior receives most of the updates for this model. The front fascia has been totally redesigned with a boxier appearance. It has a new set of LED headlights with C-shaped signature LED daytime running lights, a larger version of Nissan’s signature V-Motion front grille, and a redesigned front bumper. The overall look is both sportier and more premium.

On the side and rear, less changes are seen. It does wear a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels and the taillights have a new and more modern C-shaped LED cluster design, matched with a redesigned bumper as well. Also noticeable is that the Patrol now sports Nissan’s new logo, the first in the brand’s local lineup.

Inside, the 2022 Patrol features an updated dashboard design, first seen on the US-market and Patrol-based 2020 Armada. Top and center is a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto connectivity. The aircon vents, meanwhile, are moved lower, just below the screen. Other standard interior equipment are a 13-speaker Bose premium audio system, wireless phone charger, 7-inch Advanced Drive Display in the instrument cluster, and a cool box to keep drinks cool.

Under the hood of the 2022 Nissan Patrol is still the same 5.6-liter VK56VD V8 petrol engine with VVEL that produces 400 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission. Yes, there is still no diesel engine option unlike its main rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser.

In terms of safety, as expected, the 2022 Nissan Patrol is equipped with the latest in Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety technology. This suite of driver-assistance features equips the latest Patrol with Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB), Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW), Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention (I-BSI), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Intelligent Lane Intervention (LI), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), High Beam Assist (HBA), and an Intelligent Around View Monitor (IAVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD).

It of course also comes with the usual safety features such as Dual Front Airbags, Side Airbags, Side Curtain Airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control with 4-wheel Active Brake Limited Slip, a Limited Slip Differential, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control

The 2022 Nissan Patrol will sell for a suggested retail price of Php 4,548,000. This undercuts its main rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser by between Php 625,000 to Php 1,094,000 and that does not take yet into account the price mark-ups placed by dealers and resellers. Buyers will also be able to take advantage of a first-in-the-segment and class-leading 5-year or 150,000 km warranty.

Local sales of the 2022 Nissan Patrol will begin in February 2022. With all that in mind, do you think the updated Patrol will sell well in our premium SUV-loving market?
