Nissan X-Trail is closer to PH with Thailand launch, are we next?

The Nissan X-Trail is getting much closer to our market, launched in Thailand more than five years after it first made its global debut as the Rogue in 2020 for the North American market.

Already previewed at last year’s edition of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), there are still no signs of its arrival in our market, but its launch in the Land of Smiles is a good indication that it may come soon.

Interestingly, Thailand doesn’t get the most recently refreshed version of the X-Trail which is already available in Japan. That one comes with a new front grille and wheel designs. Instead, they’re getting something very similar to what we saw in 2024, and is available in only one variant, the e-Power e-4orce.

This means it gets a 1.5-liter KR15DDTT turbocharged three-cylinder engine under the hood, producing 144 horsepower and 250Nm of torque. This acts solely as a generator for the front and rear electric motors that power the wheels, making 204 horsepower and 136 horsepower, respectively.

In terms of design, the Thai-spec Nissan X-Trail e-Power e-4orce should already look familiar to us as it’s pretty much the same as what we already saw from way back in 2022.

It gets the brand’s signature V-Motion front grille, split headlight units, a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch NissanConnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, nine-speaker Bose premium audio system, and a black leather interior.

Other features include a panoramic sunroof, active noise cancellation, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch driver’s display, a head-up display (HUD), and ambient interior lighting.

Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) is definitely getting left behind with hybrid versions of its main rivals, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V having been available locally for some time now and enjoying good sales, and the Subaru Forester having been launched a couple of months ago.

As mentioned, there are still no signs of NPI’s introduction of the X-Trail locally despite its preview last year. They definitely can use it to catch up in sales, especially with the growing number and popularity of electrified models that have been introduced throughout the past year.

Your call, Nissan Philippines.
