Omoda 5 EV also to launch in PH

It’s still teasers galore from Omoda Philippines, a Chinese automaker under the umbrella of Chery International, that is set to launch in the local market before the year ends.

We already know that the brand will be launching alongside Jaecoo, another brand also under Chery, and that they’ll be introducing the Omoda 5 as their first model. Now, they’ve announced that they’ll also be introducing a fully-electric version of the said model.

Dubbed as a “New Energy Vehicle” or NEV, the Omoda 5 EV will be the first fully-electric vehicle in the brand’s local lineup. It will be powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with a liquid-cooled system. Power output is estimated at 150 kW with around 400 Nm of torque. With a fully-charged battery, it is estimated to be able to drive between 300 to 450 kilometers. Also, an AC/DC charging module comes as standard.

In terms of looks, the Omoda 5 EV looks similar to the standard Omoda 5 but without the large front grille and also features a couple of aerodynamic bits and pieces all around.

Drivers and passengers will also be able to enjoy seat heating and seat ventilation functions, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, remote vehicle start, keyless entry and remote switch for air-conditioning, 8-Speaker Sony audio system, fast charging USB Ports, wireless phone charger, and dual 10.25-inch screens.

Safety is also fully-loaded in the Omoda 5 EV with advanced driver-assist systems such as Front Collision Avoidance, Front Departure Reminder, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Driver Monitoring System, among others.

Pricing has not yet been announced but Omoda Philippines says that it will be very competitive thanks to the Philippine government’s tax exemption program for fully-electric vehicles and parts.

The Omoda 5 EV will be launched when the brand is officially introduced locally by the 4th quarter of this year.
