PEVS 2025 | GAC has three new EVs up its sleeve

At the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit 2025, GAC showcased three new EVs in the Philippines: the Aion V crossover, the Aion UT hatchback, and the flagship Hyptec HT crossover.

First, the Aion V is a full-electric, five-seater compact crossover. With pricing starting at Php 1,498,000 for the Elite and topping out at Php 1,698,000 for the Premium variant, it’s on the affordable side of the segment. It has a unique “Cyber T-Rex Claw” design front and back for its LED lights, has hidden door handles for aerodynamics, and rides on 19-inch wheels.

The interior features leather-upholstered power-adjustable front seats that are also ventilated and massaging (for the Premium), with an 8.88-inch digital driver’s display, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay support, a nine-speaker sound system, and a wireless charger. Other amenities include the likes of a refrigerator, PM 2.5 filter, a panoramic sunroof, acoustic glass, and the full suite of ADiGO advanced driver assistance systems.

The Premium variant gets 224 horsepower and 240Nm of torque, and a larger magazine battery with 75.26kWh, capable of driving up to 603km on a single charge. Plus, this supports up to 180kW of DC charging, capable of going from 30 to 80% in 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Elite variant is slower at 197 horsepower but with the same amount of torque, and the battery is downsized to 64.5kWh with a shorter maximum range of up to 504km. DC charging is also slower at 150kW.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Hyptec HT, GAC’s flagship crossover. Pricing starts at Php 2,260,000, with the Ultra costing Php 2,580,000.

The midsize coupe-crossover has one knockout feature (only found in the Ultra), and that’s the automatic gullwing rear doors. These have sensors on the sides of them, and can open up in tight parking spaces with no issues. Otherwise, the Premium has standard doors. It rides on 20-inch wheels in two different designs, depending on the variant.

Once you get inside, you get full Nappa leather upholstery, heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats. The rear seats feature a large amount of reclinability for maximum comfort, and a tray table and a footrest for the passenger-side occupant. There is an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, a 14.6-inch infotainment powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P chip with Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system, and a cooled 50W wireless charger, to name a few.

Both variants have a 83kWh magazine battery with up to 605km of range on a single charge, and it also supports 280kW DC fast charging that can fill up 10 to 70% in 15 minutes. Power output from the rear-mounted electric motor is 340 horsepower and 380Nm of torque, and it also comes with the complete suite of ADiGO advanced driver assistance systems.

Finally, the Aion UT is a small, fully electric hatchback that has seen a lot of success in countries like Thailand. This one is just a preview as the model will launch in the country eventually, but it’s meant to compete with the likes of the MG 4 and the BYD Dolphin.

It has a single electric motor with 136 horsepower and 145Nm of torque, with a 44.12kWh magazine battery rated for up to 420km of range on a single charge, and features a pared-down ADiGO advanced driver assistance suite compared to the other two, probably to keep the price down once it launches.

You can see these three vehicles in the metal at the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit 2025 until October 25 (Saturday) at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
