PIMS 2022: Hyundai Ioniq 5 previewed, coming to PH in January 2023
After confirming its arrival during a gathering with members of Philippine motoring media and content creators, Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH) has previewed its upcoming fully-electric vehicle offering, the Ioniq 5, at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
This isn’t the first time the Korean automaker offered a fully electric vehicle in the local market. Under the brand’s previous distributor, Hyundai became the first mainstream brand to offer an EV in the country in the form of the Hyundai Ioniq Electric. Now, they’re showing us what’s to come.
Set to be officially launched in the Philippines by January next year, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was revealed in February 2021, and is a fully-electric compact crossover built on the brand’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It was also recognized as the 2022 World Car of the Year.
Given that the launch is still a couple of months away, HMPH has not revealed any details yet about the local specification Hyundai Ioniq 5. Looking at the exterior though, the Ioniq 5 features a mix of futuristic and retro design cues. It also gets a very futuristic looking interior made of eco-friendly and sustainably sourced materials, and with two large screens.
Powering the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are two options: a 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh battery paired to an electric motor that produces between 168 and 302 horsepower. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 should be able to drive 384 to 460 kilometers on a single charge depending on the powertrain.
Again, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is set to be launched in the Philippines by January 2023. It will also be previewed at the upcoming Electric Vehicle Summit come October.
