Refreshed GWM Cannon previewed, launching at the MIAS 2025

While the GWM Cannon may not seem to be as popular as its more mainstream rivals in the highly-contested midsize pickup truck segment, it actually wowed us with how much of a value-packed option it was. Fast forward to 2025, it receives an update.

Set to be launched at the upcoming 20th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), the Chinese automaker has recently previewed the updated version of their pickup truck offering to members of the local motoring media beat. It may not look like a lot has changed at first glance, but you’ll be surprised.

The exterior gets minor changes such as a new front grille that extends to underneath the headlights with a horizontal plastic strip, and the front bumper gets a sportier look. The 18-inch alloy wheels are also redesigned and are blacked-out and there is a sports bar. ‘4×4’ and ‘CANNON’ decals have also been added, while the tailgate has the GWM name stamped on it.

Opening the doors will reveal a completely redesigned cabin that will not look out of place in a luxury SUV. It’s much sleeker and offers more premium appointments than before. There’s a new steering wheel, new screens including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a two-tone black and red color scheme.

Another big change can be found under the hood. It now gets a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This replaces the old 2.0-liter and makes more power and torque at 181 horsepower (+20 PS) and 480 Nm (+80 Nm), mated to a new nine-speed automatic transmission.

Like the pre-refresh version, this will also be fully-equipped with a suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), on top of other standard safety features.

Pricing is not yet available as of this writing but with the 2025 MIAS coming in just a week, we don’t have to wait long.
