Should Geely PH Introduce the Emgrand Sedan?

Since the Geely brand’s reintroduction in the Philippines, their models have always been crossovers. There’s the Coolray, Azkarra, and Okavango. This isn’t a surprise considering crossovers are top-sellers for almost every car brand available in the country today, but what if they decided to introduce a sedan? It could well be what we’ll be talking about now.

Meet the Geely Emgrand, now on its fourth generation, has been one of the best-selling sedans in China since it was first launched in 2008. In fact, Geely Auto has sold over 20,000 units every month since then.

The fourth generation Emgrand, codenamed SS11, is developed based on Geely Auto’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA) which is also utilized by the locally popular Geely Coolray. If ever Geely Philippines decides to introduce this locally, it could well compete with the likes of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis.

Looking at the Emgrand’s exterior, it follows Geely’s latest design language which is also seen in the Xingyue L SUV, and Preface sedan with the company’s new signature front grille featuring vertical slats. Toward the rear, the Emgrand gets LED taillights connected by a light bar and a garnish with the Geely name spelled-out.

Inside, the Geely Emgrand features a visibly premium-looking interior. Also visible is a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, similar to what is seen on other Geely models. It also features a fully-digital instrument cluster.

No powertrain details have been revealed yet but other reports say that we should expect a 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that produces 113 hp and 147 Nm of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission.

The official new Geely Emgrand’s introduction will be announced in the coming weeks. Do you think Geely Philippines should also introduce this sedan in its all-crossover SUV lineup?
