SsangYong PH introduces refreshed Rexton SUV

A great alternative to the usual Japanese SUVs

SsangYong Philippines has introduced the refreshed version of its Rexton SUV. While other brands are already designating their new models as 2021 models, SsangYong calls the new Rexton a 2020.5 model.

The Rexton is the only model in its segment that isn’t based on a pick-up truck but is instead the basis of the Musso pick-up. Updates for this 2020.5 model are mostly minor to keep it in line with trends and also give it a more premium appearance.

Not much is changed on the refreshed Rexton’s exterior design. The biggest change is the front grille which now has a honeycomb design as opposed to the original three horizontal slats. This gives the front fascia a more premium look. The headlight bezels have also been updated with a Titanium gray finish. The rest of the exterior is carried over from the pre-refreshed model.

Only minor updates have also been done inside. The 2020.5 SsangYong Rexton maintains the very premium feeling and looking two-tone brown and black quilted  leather interior. Seat ventilation is now standard unlike previously where only the 4×4 variant came with it. An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard and it comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard as well.

Another new feature of the 2020.5 Rexton is the smart key fob which now comes with a headlight activation function that can help you find your Rexton in a crowded parking lot.

Under the hood, no changes were done to the Rexton’s powertrain. It is still powered by a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine that produces 181 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Safety features include between 2 to 6 airbags, Anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control, hill descent control, and a standard reverse camera.

For pricing, the 2020.5 SsangYong Rexton starts at Php 1,760,000 for the Rexton 4×2. The 4×4 variant on the other hand sells for Php 2,260,000. The total price increase is at Php 30,000. All SsangYong Rexton buyers will benefit from a new 5-year or 100,000 km Preventive Maintenance Service. In addition to the Rexton’s 5-year warranty, this will cover the cost of oil, parts, and labor when the vehicle is serviced.

The 2020.5 SsangYong Rexton is now available at all SsangYong Auto Asia dealerships which are Auto Asia Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Auto Asia Otis in Manila, Auto Asia Davao, Auto Asia Cagayan de Oro, Auto Asia General Santos, and Auto Asia Butuan.
