Suzuki halts Jimny 5-Door sales in Australia despite high demand

Something interesting is going on over at the Land Down Under as Suzuki Australia has stopped taking orders, and is cancelling and refunding orders for its Jimny XL, known to us simply as the Jimny 5-Door.
The reason is that the Suzuki Jimny XL, which is currently in high demand in the Australian market, is undergoing evaluation by its manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki in India, due to an undisclosed issue.
This is an interesting development as the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door currently offered in the Philippine market is sourced from the same factory as the Australian version, which adds the possibility of our local units having similar undisclosed issues.
Maruti Suzuki did clarify that the ongoing evaluations and investigations are not safety-related and it is completely safe for existing owners to continue driving their vehicles.
The three-door Suzuki Jimny has been discontinued in Australia in the meantime due to it not meeting updated safety regulations for the country, increasing the demand for the larger five-door version.
As for the Philippine market, we do at least know that the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door remains unaffected, for now that is.
