TAS 2025: The electric R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R is an interesting concept

The BNR32 is back…as a one-off EV.

34 years after its initial debut in 1989, the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R is on the spotlight at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon. It’s not what you’d usually expect though as what you’re seeing is an all-electric conversion concept.

While this is surely a one-off model, the R32 EV concept definitely hints at an electric future for the GT-R nameplate. Nissan unveiled the Hyper Force concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show which is said to preview the “R36” GT-R as an electric sports car.

Initially starting its development in 2023, the R32EV concept swaps out its RB26DETT gasoline engine–a 2.6-liter twin-turbo inline-six–for an all-electric powertrain

Propelling it are dual front and rear electric motors that output 218 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque each, paired to a 62 kWh lithium-ion battery from the LEAF Nismo RC02 race car. Of note, the R32 EV weighs 1,797 kg which is 370 kg heavier than the original model.

It’s almost exactly as the original.

It’s not just the powertrain that has been changed as it also gets a Nismo GT-R (R35) brake conversion kit (with orange calipers) which are behind the 18-inch alloy wheels that mimic the original wheels, and also rides on a Nismo sports suspension.

Inside, you’ll find custom R32 shift levers and paddle shifters, custom Recaro seats, a custom sound system, as well as a fully-digital instrument cluster and center control panel with graphics that are a faithful recreation of the original.

Again, this is just a one-off project and will not be available for public consumption. Would you like an electric sports car from Nissan?
