Tesla introduces the new Model Y Performance

It seems that Tesla isn’t just done yet when it comes to adding new variants of the Model Y. Shortly after unveiling the long-wheelbase, three-row Model YL for China, it’s now re-introducing the Model Y Performance, the sportier variant of the electric crossover.
Just as the name implies, this is what happens when Tesla decides to make their crossover more, er, performance-oriented. This introduces a few upgrades that not only help it go faster, but also handle a whole lot better.

For one, it’s very easy to tell it apart due to the new front and rear bumpers. They’re more aggressive and have better aerodynamic performance as there are larger grilles and a rear diffuser, plus a carbon rear ducktail spoiler to further aid downforce.

It also rides on new staggered 21-inch wheels (Arachnid 2.0, as they call it) with “optimized tires” to improve mechanical grip and improve steering feel. Plus, it now has an adaptive suspension that changes conditions depending on the road, including drive modes.

Tesla says that this has a new “Performance powertrain” with new high-voltage battery cells and dual motors for all-wheel drive. There aren’t any exact figures other than a WLTP-rated maximum range of up to 580km, a top speed of 250kph, and a 0-100kph sprint done in 3.5 seconds.

Inside, the Model Y Performance distinguishes itself from the other Model Ys with a 16-inch screen with Ultra HD resolution and a 16-speaker sound system, front sports seats that feature the Plaid badging, and lots of carbon fiber trim instead of the fabric within the cabin.

For now, the Model Y Performance is available in Europe, with deliveries commencing in September 2025. Prices start at €62,990 (Php 4,200,000), and considering that Tesla Philippines officially sells the Model 3 Performance here, we won’t be surprised to see this eventually make its way to our local lineup.
